Overview

Jordan's Furniture, the premier furniture and mattress retailer in New England and a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, is seeking a Director of Freight Logistics. This newly created position reports directly to the Vice President of Merchandising and oversees our inbound transportation and logistics operations.

 

The successful candidate must have a proven track record of developing, directing and executing strategies, plans, programs and policies related to Freight Logistics.  As a key thought leader, you will ensure performance expectations are achieved through managing third-party partnerships. Responsibilities include managing and developing the Freight Logistics team and elevate our current procedures to the next level.

Responsibilities

  • Developing policies and procedures to ensure Logistical Operations continually meet business needs and maximize efficiency. Analyzes inbound transportation operations and identifying areas for process improvement and risk
  • Responsible for sourcing logistics providers and services that will enhance and optimize the inbound transportation network, add value, and increase efficiencies. Works with senior level management of domestic and international service providers in the movement of product for the company
  • Responsible for negotiating contracts and managing service level compliance in accordance with established standard operating procedures to ensure that the company derives maximum value.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Merchandise operations, establishes and maintains key performance indicators that drive actionable outcomes. Relies on KPIs and operational reporting to identify and resolve problems, and perform root-cause analyses
  • Partners with Warehouse Operations to ensure proper alignment with capacity planning goals. Partners with all other departments to ensure that mutual goals and objectives are accomplished consistently.
  • Assesses departmental performance, identifies weaknesses or risk, and suggests operational changes to improve efficiency or reduce costs 
  • Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, motivates, coaches and mentors department employees

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in a management role working in logistics or transportation operations
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations as well as international transportation network including ocean carriers, freight forwarders, ports, drayage provider network
  • Experience in transportation procurement and negotiating contracts and rates
  • Strong command of supply chain, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles
  • Strong knowledge and experience with one or more Transportation Management Systems (TMS)
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Strong team leadership skills in managing rapidly growing and fast-paced operations
  • Industry standard certifications are preferred but not required
  • Extensive project management experience
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration experience
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload
